Coral bean is an often prickly, herbaceous perennial. Leaves are large and triangular. The scarlet flowers are found in racemes 2 feet tall. The fruit pods are up to 5 inches in length. Coral bean can grow to 4 feet tall and the plant is propagated by seeds and root cuttings. Coral bean is native in the southeast and Texas and is used in these areas as a ornamental. All parts of this plant are poisonous if ingested.
